Norman Carton

(1908 - 1980)

One of the first generation abstract expressionist painters who escaped a violent Russian Empire pogrom and came to the United States in 1922.

His ab-ex paintings exhibit the emotional intensity of an exile who was profoundly affected by such events. His material, compositional and stylistic components of his works visually manifest this emotional content.
